BE THANKFUL, DON’T COMPLAIN

Uncle Matt had set up his stall and was waiting for customers in the market. He would wake up at sunrise in the morning and come to the market area early. Both his friends and customers would admire his order and the fruits and vegetables he carefully arranged. Uncle Matt's most important characteristic, apart from doing his job well, was that he was cheerful and always pleased with himself.

His attitude was always like this, even on cold and rainy winter days, even when he had no customers. He would prepare his counter carefully as if customers would arrive at any moment.

“These efforts will not be in vain, friends, keep trying, do not give up.”

"God gives to those who work."

“The end of patience is salvation.”

He said and always motivated those around him.

Uncle Usman at the counter next to him was different. When the weather was sunny, he’d say "It's too hot." When the weather was cold, he would complain about the coldness. Also, he never smiled. He was almost good at finding the negative. As long as he was unhappy, all kinds of negativity would find him. Once, in rainy weather, the awning that held the rainwater spilled all the dirty water it had accumulated onto his counter. All the towels to be sold on the counter were soaked and unusable. Even though the counter opposite him, who was also selling towels, had many customers, he would say, "Of course, they will buy from him, his stall is on the busier side," and he never tried to improve himself. He constantly made up a rationale for the negativities he experienced and kept blaming the outside world.

Do you want better? Here is the answer…

Uncle Matt, on the other hand, did exactly the opposite behavior. Actually, Uncle Matt had solved the secret. He would thank anyone for their favor and would also express his gratitude when he was alone. He knew that the more he was thankful, the more things to be thankful for would come.

It was so easy to complain. On the other hand, Uncle Matt also learned that he had to do the same thing every time he did by complaining. Because people who complain cannot see the solution. That's why he now preferred to be thankful instead of complaining.

That's why, when you get up from your bed in the morning, you say, "I wonder what I should be thankful for today?" He made it his principle to think like this. Every time he concentrated on that, things always got easier. He knew that the more he thanked those who did good to him, the more people would do good.

A person needs to be aware of what he spends his time with, relationships, knowledge, and possessions to learn, and he needs to know well what he does not want, not what he wants.

Uncle Matt said to the boy bringing tea in the market, "Well done, champ. This tea is even more delicious when you serve." and drank his tea. To receive this appreciation, the boy would pass by the counter every time and say, "Uncle Matt, shall I bring tea?" His kind words were motivating.

Uncle Matt was a completely different person. On a sunny day, he folds his shirt sleeves up to his elbows, opens his collar, and sits on the chair until the customer arrives, saying, "Look at the beauty of the sun." He would sunbathe. “You know, there is vitamin D in the sun, it is important. The sun protects us from diseases." He always found a reason to be happy.

The secret of true happiness

If you do not have what most people have and are still grateful, that is true happiness.

Uncle Matt leaned back in his seat and remembered the days when he used to be a porter. “Those were difficult days,” he said. But he always had older brothers around him who would set a good example for him. He did what they said, never messed up, never complained, and never stopped working. Now he was married and had three children. Thank God, he was able to support his family and send his children to school. His friends would look at Uncle Matt with admiration, who was happy because the sun was out.

The more you are grateful, the more things to be grateful for will happen. The more you complain, the more things to complain about will happen.

However, another friend of his, who was an apprentice at the same time, did not like the job, constantly complained and was always looking for ways to get away. He would constantly move from one job to another. He also got married in the same period but separated two years later.

After all, marriage was a big responsibility. It was very proud for a man to be able to support his household. The most important thing was to accept what life gave him and adapt without resistance. He learned this long ago.

He was distracted from his dreams by a question from a customer...

“How much does a kilo of apples cost?”

“Sister, it is 75 per kilo.”

“How can it be 75? You've exaggerated so much, no one can afford it anymore. How can we get it with this pension? We can't afford anything. “This country has become uninhabitable.”

“Sister, speak well, may good come to us. Things don't get better as long as we complain. "Let's work, be united, not waste, support education, raise people, and the rest will be good," he said. The customer had nothing to say. She took as many apples as she needed and left the counter, wishing him good luck.

Uncle Matt sighed and watered and polished the greens and fruits on his counter. He looked up. A very elegantly dressed man in a coat approached him.

“Are you Matt the marketer?”

“Yes brother, I am the only one named Matt in this market.”

“I come from Yıldız Hotel. All the products you gave me the other day were very nice, just as you said, and the team was very pleased. That's why we want to buy everything on your stall, will you sell it?

“On my head, brother, of course. "I'll bring the packages to your car."

In that cold winter, Marketman Matt sold all his goods. He was once again thankful that he could go home early to his children and drink hot soup.

Uncle Usman, looking after him, steamed his frozen hands with his mouth and said, “Of course he can sell it, we cannot sell it because they took care of him when he was a child. We never had any owners." he said, again blaming everyone but himself.

Experiential Teaching says; Complaining takes away the ability of a person to find a solution. Gratitude gives birth to things to be thankful for.

May we have many thankful days...
