THE TERN

Yes, I know, many of us are hearing this name for the first time.

So, who is this Tern?

It is a graceful seabird, a little bit smaller than a seagull.

It lives in colonies both in our country and all around the world.

In nature, every living being, plant, and animal always has something to teach us.

Now, the terns we are about to learn from live in the Indian Ocean.

They spend their time soaring over the ocean skies, rarely resting on the water.

They can even take short naps while flying.

But things change during the breeding season.

That’s when they migrate to tropical islands.

On islands in the middle of the ocean, baby birds
hatch from their eggs and make their entrance into the world.

The chicks need to be ready to flap their wings across the ocean
in a short time.

The mother bird raises her kids for this purpose.

First, low-altitude flights over the island,

Then they flapped their wings with determination over the water.

It wasn't exactly flying,

They rise a little and land back in the sea.

But they aren’t the only ones living on the island.
On its shores reside the “Giant Kingfish.”

It's a bit strange to call these fish 'fish'.

If you're a fish, stay deep in the ocean like a king.
What are you doing on the surface, or even in the sky?

As you know, the tern dives into the water to catch fish,
And it seems the Kingfish takes revenge for this.

What a marvel of design,

It's hard to understand.

It’s as if it’s showing off to those searching for miracles.

It calculates the flight speed and coordinates
of a bird flying over the sea.

At the right moment, it shoots out of the water with incredible speed.

It flies almost wingless.

He catches a bird hovering in the air.

Of course, the tern chicks become easy targets.

After all, their wings are just developing.

They fly a little, rest on the water’s surface,

And even if they take off again, they can’t rise very high.

Sadly, many chicks are lost in the training grounds
before the great migration.

But here’s the strange part: the mother tern
spots the fish approaching her chick from above.
She flies toward her chick, crying out to warn it.
The tired chick flaps its wings and rises from the water.

Sometimes the genius fish jumps

But the chick evades it with a quick maneuver.

It learns very quickly how to survive.

When the time is up, and the chicks are ready,
the tern colony migrates from the island.

What if we mothers were in the place of the tern?

We would have given that kingfish everything she could.

If it was our baby, we wouldn't recognize the king if he came.

Every time the kingfish poked its head out of the sea,

We would make a definite threat.

“If you come near my chick again,
I swear I’ll peck your eyes out, no joke!”

When our king was not interested,

The maternal solution is inevitable.

“Come here, my child, climb onto my back,
Let’s fly far away together.”

Isn't it really about being like the tern?

Could those chicks ever be ready to fly far away?
Without flapping their wings on their own,
making an effort, and paying the price?

Sure, motherhood is about protecting your child,
but it’s also about raising them.

Bringing them into life, preparing them for life,

and witnessing their transformation.

So, support them, encourage them, guide them,
but please let them solve their problems.

Share your experience; teach them how to rise if they fall.

Of course, they'll make mistakes, just let them happen.

Now, smile and be patient,

Be like the tern in parenting...
