Ugh… Oooh… Nope.
She couldn't fit into the trousers she bought just two weeks ago. Had she really gained weight in less than two weeks? They wouldn't take it back now because she removed the tag. It was an end-of-season item anyway and they didn't have any bigger sizes left at the store.
She sighed deeply and her eyes were filled with tears. She almost cried and collapsed onto the bed. She felt like she couldn't fit into her room, just like she couldn't fit into her pants. There was no room left to stand in the tiny room. Everywhere was a mess. Whenever her mother did the cleaning, she would get upset and say, "Oh, what will happen to this girl? She will never get married. Honey, be tidy. Is this how I taught you?” Her mom was right to be upset. She was also sad, but she couldn't keep up. From work to home and from home to work, time was passing like a river and Nadia could not do what she wanted to do. She had big dreams when she graduated from university. She was going to get a good job, travel the world whenever she had the chance, learn new languages, marry the man of her dreams... But let's face it, it took her three years to find a job after graduation. Now, financial difficulties were pushing the door. She hadn't even been able to go on a weekend getaway with her friends yet, let alone travel the world. She either didn't have the money or the time.
She was working day and night to prove herself in her new job. Does someone need to work overtime? Nadia stays. Does the office need to open early tomorrow? Nadia comes. There is cleaning on Saturday, someone needs to be at the office. Nadia goes to the office on Saturday. She didn't mind these. She was not afraid to put in extra effort until she proved herself. However, in this stress, she devoted herself to food. She either spent her weekends at home making dessert recipes she saw on social media or spent the little money she earned going out to newly opened places. She spent the money she earned after working hard on a few hours of sweet pleasures.
“ENOUGH!”
She remembered the day they bought the pants she was trying to fit into. She liked it so much that she bought one for her sister, too. Her sister said, "Sis, never mind, we'll buy it next month, don't spend all your money." Even though she said this, Nadia's sisterly spirit swelled. Then they sat down and ate their delicious desserts. Her sister said, "Let's have one dessert, we'll share it." When she said this, Nadia got angry. “Why are we working if we can't have the dessert we want?”
Why was she really working? Hadn't she ever asked herself that? Was all that hard work just to go out shopping and feel good for a few days? Well, wasn't there any right to have fun?
How much a person has the right to consume is determined by how much she produces.
Suddenly she started crying where she sat. Was it really worth it? Why was she doing all this? She could not spare time for herself and her family. She couldn't keep up with anything. What was she working for? For money?
What would she do with that money? She started spending constantly because she didn't know what to do with what she had. Yes, she was working hard, but did her consumption exceed her production? She felt like she was trying to fill a glass with a hole at the bottom. Neither the amount nor the location of consumption was correct. She was working when she should have been spending time with her family. “Let me work a little and then enjoy it,” she said. She felt overwhelmed even when she had to work. She was calling her friends and saying, "Let's do something." However, she could not find the balance between the two. Just like she couldn't fit into her pants, she couldn't fit into life either. She wiped her tears.
“It doesn't work like that. “I need to do something.”
She remembered when she graduated from school and her dreams at that time. Those wishes were still there deep down. She had to take action.
Experiential Design Teaching says that desire and decision are not the same thing.
It was time to turn Nadia's wishes into decisions.
There is no longer visiting dessert shops every weekend. She was determined to save money and study abroad, even if only for a short time. Thus, she would improve herself in her profession and look for a better job when she returned. But first, she had to continue working here and save the money that would take her to her goal by reducing her consumption.
Goal… Now she had a goal. She felt relieved already. She felt the clutter around her and in her mind began to disappear. At that moment, someone knocked on the door of the room.
-Sis, may I come in?
-Yes dear, what happened?
-You know those new jeans we bought?
-Yes?
-My mother put yours in my closet, can you give me mine?
