Everly went to the grocery store to prepare for a
large family gathering at the weekend.
She was looking at the list of ingredients.
She started to choose apples from the fruit section.
Her niece Ivy loved her aunt’s apple cookies. "I’m so grateful," Everly
thought, "Our home will be lively again. These gatherings are so
wonderful."
A woman came up
to her in the supermarket and asked Everly, “Excuse me, which aisle are the
cheeses on sale?” “Ma'am, I don't work here,” she replied with a smile.
- Oh dear, I’m so sorry! I thought you were an
employee here. But how kindly you responded. If it were someone else, they
might’ve spoken rudely as if I’d insulted them. I don’t understand people these
days, my girl. It’s as if everyone is each other’s enemy.
- You're right, Auntie, people are becoming less
tolerant of each other. No one is happy with the way things are, unfortunately.
- Ah, my dear girl, I raised five children. I did my
best to bring them up with love and care, teaching them to be good people.
Thank God, each one married someone like themselves and built their own
families. But I have never seen people as difficult to get along with as we are
now, my daughter.
- Auntie, how happy for you. You have raised beautiful people in these times. Your efforts have brought you to a good place. So what is the secret? Maybe we can follow it too.
- I don’t know if it’s a secret, but I always tried to
be someone who meets needs. I didn’t expect anything in return while doing so.
I also made an effort to do everything with a smile. My children helped me
along this way as well."
- Meeting needs? And doing it for free? I've never thought of it like that. It's very
good what you said. Have a good day...
Everly said goodbye and left and started thinking
about their conversation. Why were people so unhappy? Does meeting needs really
make that much difference? Everyone wanted someone to fulfill their needs. No
one was thinking, “I wonder whose needs I can meet”
Everly completed her list and left the store.
At that moment, Everly thought of Aunt Sandy, who
lived just two streets away. “How rude of me. I promised to visit her, but it’s
been at least five months. I should go and make it up to her, see if she needs
anything,” she thought as she hurried along.
Aunt Sandy was a retired teacher. She had lost her
legs in an accident. It had been years since she lost her husband. She had no
children and lived alone. Neighbors,
those who lived nearby, often came to her aid. Everly heard about her from the
neighbors and visited her once. After that, she had never visited.
Aunt Sandy was very happy to see Everly. They had coffee
together. Aunt Sandy had such a nice conversation. She kept telling memories
from her teaching life. Sometimes she would forget and retell them. Everly
listened with a smile without interrupting. On the one hand, she intended to
complete some of the deficiencies she observed at home.
Even making coffee and chatting was enough to fulfill
one's needs. Everly felt sad from time to time. Why was she so late in doing
this? It was not a very difficult thing to do, no special skill was needed.
After the lovely conversation, she left Aunt Sandy’s
home...
She walked home, feeling at peace from the joy of
helping someone. She was already thinking about doing this more often.
It was amazing how magical the effect of meeting
someone’s needs could be.
She was so glad she had run into that lady at the
grocery store...
Fortunately, there was someone who brought them
together...

YanıtlaSilİnsan ihtiyaç karşılamayı hep büyük hamleler olması gerekiyormuş gibi düşünür. Oysa bir tebessüm, bir kahve, bir sarılma bile ihtiyaç giderebilir...
