BOILED EGGS

"I can never touch a boiled egg," said Aria. Cecelia immediately agreed, "I can never touch it either." Penny said, "I can touch it, but I don’t prefer eating it."

Tammy asked Aria with surprise, "What do you mean, you can't touch it at all?" Aria replied, "I never touch it and don't stay in a room where boiled eggs are eaten. If they have been eaten before, I can tell immediately, and don't enter a room without letting it air out for at least ten minutes. I have two children, my husband can peel them and feed them if he wants. But they don't eat them much anymore. We mostly make omelets."

While the conversation continued, Emma was listening to them silently. After they talked among themselves for a while, Tammy turned to Emma and asked, "You haven't talked at all, what do you have to say about boiled eggs?" Emma smiled and said, "The best meals I've ever eaten in my life might be with them. Not hotly and freshly you talk about. The cold and purply way, many people wouldn't want to eat."

Aria said, "Ugh, my stomach is upset, even if I knew I was going to die of hunger, I would never eat it. I would throw it away immediately. Let's change the subject." They talked about different subjects for a while. "It's getting late now, let's head home and get together again," they said.

Emma was a doctor. She met with her middle school friends after years. Thinking back in her car, she remembered the conversation they had about eggs. When she thought about it, the best meal she had, could have been boiled eggs and bread.

She was in her last year of university and was doing her ER internship. She would take over the shift at 8:00 am and hand it over at 8:00 am the next morning. 24 hours would pass before she could leave the ER.

It was busy during the day, but the rush hour started in the evening and went until midnight. It was calm towards the morning.

Since it was forbidden to leave the ER, the meals were brought to the break room. The hospital would serve a “night breakfast” at night, during the first hour of the new day. Bread, cheese, cucumber, olives, eggs…

Of course, Emma and her other intern friends were the juniors. Hence, they were the ones rushing to do everything and couldn't eat until things calmed down. After midnight, they would be exhausted, but at the same time feel good for accomplishing so much. When the job was done, they would grab a bite and have some fresh air. Those moments were delightful.

The meal left would always be; a blue-colored cold egg, a round piece of bread in a bag, and stale tea. They would regain energy with that egg sandwich and tea, then talk about the cases they were dealing with. She remembered the time she left the ER saying “Thank God, we got through today too.”

When she saw those eggs and bread on the first night of her emergency shift, she said, "I won't eat these," like her friends. However, when she thought about it, the thing she enjoyed eating the most was those eggs.

“Why was it so enjoyable?” she wondered. Just dry bread, a cold and discolored egg, and maybe a little salt.

She was almost home, she stopped to buy something from the grocery store before leaving. There was a fisherman next to the grocery store. He was going fishing with his little son. The grocer in front of the door said to the boy, "Are you going with your dad, Adam?" The man looked at the father and asked, "Won't Adam get tired, how will he stay with you until morning?"

His father smiled as he stroked Adam's head, saying, "We will have a feast with the fish he will catch! Tomorrow he will love the food he eats and the place he sleeps "

A light lit in Emma’s head after hearing the answer. She looked at the child with a smile. "May you catch plenty of fish" she said.

Then she entered the grocery store, and with a huge smile, she said... "Can you give me some eggs?"
